A stacker crane, short for storage and retrieval machine, is a rail-guided, single-track vehicle used to serve goods within a high-bay warehouse. The size of a stacker crane ranges from a minimum of 6 meters up to a maximum height of 46 meters. Depending on the application, the degree of automation ranges from manual to fully automated.
A distinction is made between two types. On the one hand, there are the aisle-bound SRMs, which are only used in one aisle, and on the other hand, curve-compliant SRMs, which have a switch system and can serve the entire warehouse.
Generally, an RBG moves on 3 axes, in the longitudinal direction, in the vertical direction and in the transverse direction and consists of a mast, chassis, lift truck, load handling device and control system.
