Intralogistics

Intralogistics refers to the logistical flow of materials and goods within a company’s warehouse. This term was defined in 2004 by the German Engineering Federation (Verband Deutscher Maschinen- und Anlagenbau) to distinguish it from the transport of goods outside the company’s premises, e.g. by a freight forwarder. Intralogistics encompasses the control, implementation, optimization and organization of material flow, information flows and goods handling within warehouse operations in trade, industry and various public facilities.
Due to the many intersections with other areas within the company, intralogistics has to cope with many tasks. Therefore, automation plays a major role, in order to accelerate and simplify processes, technical aids are increasingly used. These range from simple conveyor belts to very complex robot solutions.
