QLS, one of the largest 3PL players in the Netherlands, and Reesink Logistic Solutions are proud to announce the successful commissioning of a AutoStore FlexBins system. This implementation is a significant milestone in the evolution of warehouse automation, making it flexible and future-proof.
The need for this solution arose from QLS’s diverse product range. Most items were already processed within their AutoStore system, but a portion of the assortment, unsuitable for the bin size used in the existing AutoStore, was still handled manually. However, if AutoStore could accommodate two bin sizes, it would be possible to create a unified process for almost all products.
Reesink Logistic Solutions anticipated this need by realizing a unique configuration. A second grid was added to the existing AutoStore installation in Dordrecht and connected directly to the original system. While the original grid was equipped with 220 mm bins, the new grid has 425 mm bins. This enabled QLS to handle products of varying heights and volumes within a single environment. This configuration proved to be the perfect foundation for the FlexBins system, which AutoStore is now introduced worldwide.
Following the success of the pilot at QLS, AutoStore has further developed the concept into a standard solution that is now rolled out globally.
The FlexBins concept allows different bin heights (220 mm, 330 mm and 425 mm) to be combined within one grid. This increases storage density by 10–15% and allows a greater variety of products to be stored within the same system. Furthermore, processes such as order consolidation and buffering can now be carried out entirely within the AutoStore system, eliminating the need for additional systems.
QLS and Reesink have also recently completed a new AutoStore installation in Alblasserdam,The Netherlands, integrating AutoStore-supported FlexBins.
